ASVI Session Two

CARDIOMEGALY IN SICKLE CELL DISEASE

12th February 2022 ASVI is back with Session Two of Amplify Sickle Cell Voices Webinar Series Part Three.

In 2022, over 100 years since Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) was discovered in an American Lab, we are still facing health disparities around the world. Most people impacted by this condition are still missing the basic medications to manage their symptoms and complications.

This week we are discussing Cardiomegaly in SCD. A lot of research studies indicate that SCD is associated with elevated cardiac output and cardiomegaly. The combination of moderate-to-severe anaemia and the resultant volume load produces increased cardiac output at rest.

In addition an article in the JACC journal states that Patients with SCD have a unique cardiomyopathy with restrictive physiology characterized by diastolic dysfunction, left atrial dilation, and normal systolic function. With all this evidence, come and participate in this discussion. 7am EST 12th Feb 2022.

Amplify Sickle Cell Voices International Inc is created for this reason, to highlight issues affecting the majority of the people impacted by this disease. Lend your voice to this cause, join us on 12th February 2022 at 7am EST, check the time in your area.
